#1-9: Original LP issue: Tide A&M SP 3031
#10-12 and index 2 of #13 previously unissued
Mastered at Universal Mastering Studios-East

Jobim appears on all tracks, playing guitar, piano, electric piano, or (by means of overdubbing) various combinations of those instruments. On the tracks that use overdubbing, he usually played guitar as part of the basic tracks and added the piano lines later.
Deodato also contributed some keyboard playing; he is the added player in the acoustic piano duet that concludes the master take of 'Tema Jazz'. That segment - played simultaneously on two different pianos (Jobim in the right channel and Deodato in the left), with no overdubs - was omitted from the original release by an early fadeout. It appears here as index two on track 13.

Discussion about Antonio Carlos Jobim - Tide
Mysterious Wrench
This is an excellent album, but don't get this particular reissue, or its 2000 U.S. counterpart, 314 543 500-2, in the "Verve By Request" Series. There was a lot of overdubbing when the album was originally prepared, and, for "Takatanga" on this CD, they used the tape with the next-to-last stage: the flutes are missing, and it leaves a "hole". The Japanese CD counterpart, in the "Bossa Nova 2001" series (UCCV-9002), which is a very handsome replica of the original LP, has the same fault. To get the correct version, get the LP (not hard to find), or the following CDs: Japanese POCM-5017 (1992), or Japanese POCM-5053 (1998). Any U.S. CD prior to this one would probably be o.k.Don't bother about the bonus tracks. The original album is great on its own, and the extra tracks are not very interesting. "Tema Jazz" isn't exactly the best track on the album anyway, and the flute solo is poor. They had Hubert Laws there. Why didn't they use him for the solo?
