Notes
The Ökrös Ensemble is the foremost contemporary band playing traditional folk music from Transylvania. Featured on this beautiful collection of tunes and virtuoso playing are the violinist Aladár Csiszár, the last great informant of folk music from the Székelyföld region; the marvelous artistry of Kálmán Balogh, one of the most exciting cimbalom players in the world; as well as the young singer Ágnes Herczku. László Kelemen, the musical arranger for the CD, is among the most important ethnomusicologists and researchers of folk music in Transylvania and Hungary. The theme of the album is take from "I Left My Sweet Homeland" ["Elindultam szép hazámból"], one of the most famous Hungarian folksongs, which was originally collected by Béla Bartók during his early field recordings.
